CONSUMER RIGHTS ACT 2015

Before buying a new or used car, make sure you:

  1. Know your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
This is your legal protection if the car is faulty or not as described.

  2. Don’t sign anything or hand over money until you’ve thoroughly tested the car.
If you do pay a deposit, use a credit card — never cash.

  3. Remember you have 30 days to reject the car if it’s faulty after purchase.
For example: engine cutting out, warning lights, electrical faults, etc.

  4. At the first sign of a problem, contact the dealership immediately.
Do it in writing (email is best). Keep records of everything — dates, times, calls, and what was said.

  5. Always pay the deposit by credit card.
This creates shared liability with the card provider, who can step in and fight your corner if things go wrong.
